Dog Snacks and Treats

dog biscuitsIf you want to feed your dog the healthiest diet possible, you'll want to give them healthy treats and snacks in addition to their normal food.  Most of the commercial treats available at the store are delicious to your dog but contain low quality ingredients.  Of course, occasional junk food won't hurt your dog, but with so many healthy alternatives there is no reason to not choose a healthy and delicious treat for your dog.

One of the best snacks you can give your dog is vegetables from your kitchen.  Most dogs love raw carrots.  Cauliflower is also popular.  To cool down in the summer, offer your dog some frozen green beans.  Fruits can also make a great treat.  Share your apples, strawberries, bananas, peaches, melons, and nectarines with your dog.  Avoid grapes, raisins, apple seeds, and avocado pits.

If you want to buy your dog a treat, keep an eye out for Mother Nature Healthy Dog Treats.  They use the same human grade ingredients that they use in their Natura pet food.  Another good treat for your dog, especially if they have food allergies, is Sam's Yams.  It is made 100% from sweet potato.  Sam's Yams are chews so it's great to give to your bored dog.  Three Dog Bakery has several different treats available. Finally, the Howling Hound Bakery ships vegetarian dog treats anywhere.

Many dog parents choose to give their pooches homemade snacks.  There are several cookbooks that you can purchase to help you bake nutritious and delicious snacks that your dog will love.
